On April 29-30, 2011, an Eagle Scout
project completed the planting of 75 trees at two West Orange public
schools: Edison Middle School and Liberty Middle School. This work was
carried out by a group of volunteers --scouts, families, and friends. It
epitomized the vibrant spirit that permeates our community in this Thomas
Edison town. The project aimed to beautify the town, enhance the natural
environment and instruct the participants in good, collaborative
citizenship.
In addition to the many members and
friends of Troop 6 who contributed to the success of the planting, we
express our heartfelt thanks to the following:
• David Alexander, Naturalist, Essex County Environmental Center
• Leonard Lepore, Muni.
Engineer & Dir. of W.O. Public Works Dept
• John Linson, Forester, West Orange Public Works Dept
• Nick Salese, Asst. Director, West Orange Public Works Dept
• Lisa Simms, Director, the New Jersey Tree Foundation
We gratefully acknowledge the Foundation as the donor of our trees,
Mr.
Linson as our tireless mentor in helping the scouts prepare the sites
and plant the trees, and the WOPW Dept as the kind and
generous hosts of the entire mission.
